Alex & Sam’s June wedding at Byron View Farm was met with the most luminescent hinterland sunset, relaxed vibe and effortless beauty. Cocktail hour and speeches on the western lawn led seamlessly into a beautiful intimate reception on the cottage’s wrap-around verandah, styled romantically in blush pastels, fresh white and a hint of gold. Witness how Carly Tia captures the day perfectly and get lost in their love story below.
Tell us your story, how did you both meet?
We matched on Tinder in 2014 and after a few days of messaging we caught up for a drink. I was nervous before the date in case he turned out to be an axe murderer… and had a girlfriend on standby to rescue me if the date was a shocker. Needless to say, that friend never got a call because we spent hours talking and both knew pretty quickly that this was something different.
How did the proposal happen?
We were going out for dinner and as we were walking to the restaurant Sam stopped me on the footpath and told me there was something important he wanted to ask me. He pulled out the ring and I was completely stunned. The story goes that I punched him in the arm and asked him if he was serious a few times before actually saying yes. It was sweet and simple and completely perfect for us. The next day Sam had arranged for our families and a few close friends to meet for a drink and it was so lovely that we got to share the news with everyone.
What were the reasons for choosing Byron View Farm as the venue for your special day?
We wanted to have a small wedding with a close group of friends and family and decided a weekend in Byron Bay would be perfect. We found Byron View Farm online and didn’t actually see it in person until the week of the wedding. The views are incredible and there are so many options for the ceremony, all of which are so stunning. We absolutely loved the style of the cottage and that you could have the reception on the verandah. The whole place is really special and feels so intimate and secluded. It also really appealed to us that you could do everything at the one venue and wouldn’t need to travel anywhere else on the day.
What style were you striving for with your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create? We had a small, intimate wedding with immediate family and a few friends and were after a relaxed, romantic vibe for the day. The venue and views were so beautiful that we didn’t need to add much to achieve the look we were after. I didn’t want anything too fussy or elaborate so we stuck to natural colours and elements. We had lots of whites and greens with a touch of pink and gold.
Were there any vendors that you particularly loved working with and why?
As we were from interstate, we didn’t get to meet any vendors in person until the week of the wedding so we relied heavily on Skype and email. We used the list of suggested vendors from Byron Bay Weddings and read lots of reviews before booking people. We really hit the jackpot as everyone was fantastic and we didn’t run into any trouble.
Carly Tia Photography – We spoke to Carly via Skype throughout the process and felt really confident she would be a good fit for us. Carly was great on the day, so warm and friendly. Neither of us are particularly comfortable in front of the camera but she made us feel really at ease.
Phoebe Fever Hair and MUA – Phoebe was amazing on the day. The morning was relaxed and fun while we were getting ready and she completely understood the natural look I was after.
Kate Veling (Inner Circle Ceremonies) – Kate was friendly, relaxed and enthusiastic. Our ceremony was so lovely and meant more to us than either one of us expected. We are laughing in practically every ceremony photo because it was such a great experience.
What were your favourite parts of the planning process with Byron Bay Weddings?
The planning process was simple and ran very smoothly, especially considering we did it all via phone and email. We received lots of advice and suggestions from the team and they understood our vision for the day. The wedding day was brilliant and we couldn’t have asked for better service. The wedding day coordinators Carmen and Kristen were seriously amazing – we didn’t have to worry about anything and they went above and beyond to make the day special for us. We had such a relaxed and enjoyable day because of this. It was worth every penny having the experts take care of it.
Overall, what was your most favourite part of your wedding day and why?
That’s a hard choice – the whole day was absolutely brilliant. One of the highlights was the few moments we got alone together before the reception started. The coordinators ushered us inside the cottage and made sure we got a few minutes to check in with each other and soak it all in. After that, going out on the verandah for our reception was so special. They created such a beautiful space for us with the lights, candles and flowers. It was simple and elegant which was exactly what we wanted. It was amazing to sit down somewhere so beautiful and see our guests having such a fantastic time at our wedding.
