On a beautiful winter’s day in August, Shawnie and Sam tied the knot at The Earth House, one of the most iconic venues in Byron Bay. Their intimate ceremony was framed by the arbour of an ancient fig tree followed by cocktails and canapés with 180-degree views of the Nightcap Ranges. They wanted a relaxed romantic vibe and chose a palette of neutral and pastels tones, which complemented the Mediterranean-style setting perfectly. Read on to hear more about Shawnie & Sam’s dream wedding day.
Tell us about your story, how did you meet and where did the proposal happen?
Our love story began when I picked Sam up at my cousin’s engagement party seven years ago. Funnily my cousin was Sam’s best friend and best man at our wedding.
Sam proposed in 2019 in Europe.
What were the reasons for choosing The Earth House as the wedding venue for your special day?
When we met with Che from Byron Bay Weddings to discuss venues, he suggested Earth House and we fell in love with it the moment we arrived. Munro (the owner of Earth House) and his mum Jackie were so warm and welcoming. The venue itself is so breath-taking on its own, it didn’t take much in terms of ‘decorating’ to create our dream day. We loved that the venue had it all from beautiful accommodation to the perfect ceremony view and stunning reception venue.
What style were you striving for with your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?
I loved the new romance look from The Wedding Shed, but I’m personally very coastal / boho. So, I wanted a combination of those two looks as well as some pastel colours such as light pinks and whites. My ideal setting was a relaxed romance vibe which suits us perfectly. We could not have been happier with the look that came together on the day.
Were there any wedding suppliers that you particularly loved working with and why?
We love our celebrant Michelle Shannon, she captured us perfectly as a couple.
We had so many compliments on the food, we’re so grateful to Fig Tree Catering.
Our photographers, Figtree Photography, where also amazing – very easy going and the pictures are beautiful!
Props also to our wedding planner, Sophie, and On the Day Coordinator, Kristen from Byron Bay Weddings. Everything came together perfectly.
And lastly! The flowers by Wilderness Flowers were just flawless!
What were your favourite parts of the wedding planning process with Byron Bay Weddings?
I loved the regular check ins, kept me right on track and I can honestly say I wasn’t at all stressed in the entire process. I also liked that Sophie was easily contactable and similarly the week of wedding our contact, Kate from Byron Bay Weddings, was great.
Tell us what were the most important aspects of your wedding day and which moments really stood out to you?
Definitely the ceremony and walking down the isle, seeing it all come together and looking beautiful. It was so nice to see all our guests happy and having a good time.
And obviously, sharing that moment as husband and wife with our beautiful daughter Benee.
What would be your biggest advice to other couples currently planning their wedding?
There is so much online it can get really overwhelming so make the most of the BBW suppliers list. Look each supplier up online and see if that fits into the vibe you are looking for.
