Nestled in Byron’s tranquil hinterland, Sarah & Matt’s Earth House wedding was a day of effortless elegance and beauty, representing this gorgeous couple perfectly. When their original wedding venue tragically burnt down, Sarah & Matt decided to view The Earth House and in a serendipitous turn of events, they “immediately knew this was where [they] were meant to get married”. The styling theme across the day saw a blend of rattan furnishings, neutral hues, dried foliage and stunning soft blooms in cream, dusty pink and muted terracotta. Read on to relive this special day.
Tell us about your story, how did you meet and where did the proposal happen?
Matt and I first met when we were 17 working out our after school job. We became quite good friends to begin with and about one year down the track we started dating. We were very young when we got together so we didn’t rush into getting married. In 2018, we were on a trip through Asia and more specifically, the country Laos when he proposed. The town was called Luang Prabang and we had walked down to the river at sunset when he did it. We were only saying the other day that we are so lucky we found each other very early in life because we have experienced so much in the 15 years we have been together.

What were the reasons for choosing Earth House as the venue for your special day?
We were actually originally booked in at Fig Tree and were absolutely devastated when it burnt down. We were given a few new options, but when we went out to view The Earth House we were blown away with how spectacular is it!! I immediately knew this was where we were meant to get married so we didn’t have to think about it at all really and booked it in.

What style were you striving for with your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?
The style we were striving for was minimal, but we also wanted it to be elegant. We picked colours that suited our everyday style as we wanted to stay true to ourselves. We also wanted to compliment The Earth Houses beautiful scenery too!
Were there any vendors that you particularly loved working with and why?
We loved all the vendors we picked! We do want to give a shout out to Alstonville Florists, Nicola Lemmon Photography and definitely Byron Bay Weddings. Kerry and her staff at Alstonville are very talented and I am still blown away at how lovely Kerry is and was so easy to deal with. Nicola is just the best! Her style and personality were exactly what we were wanting for our day. We were very lucky that I was given her name to check out. We (especially me) cannot thank Sophie from BBW enough! With all the changes we had to go through, she just made it so easy for us. Marty on the day of our wedding was also brilliant! He made everything so, so easy and we didn’t have to worry about anything at all and just enjoy ourselves.
What were your favourite parts of the wedding planning process with Byron Bay Weddings?
Our favourite parts of our wedding planning were having an idea or vision in your mind and Sophie made it happen. She also gave advice on things that she knew would make things flow or look better, which was really helpful! Cannot fault the planning process with BBW.
Tell us what were the most important aspects of your wedding day and which moments really stood out to you?
For our wedding day we said from the start we don’t want to have to worry about anything on the day, we just wanted to rock up and get married. That’s what the most important part to us was. We didn’t want any stress on the day and only wanted to focus on ourselves, as well as our family and friends. The thing that stood out the most was how BBW made this happen. Another huge thing was walking into the barn and seeing all our planning come to life. Everything was stunning!

What would be your biggest advice to other couples currently planning their wedding?
Our advice would be to go with the flow and deal with things as they come, don’t stress about things that aren’t in your control (easier said than done I know). Everything will definitely work out in the end though.
