Real Wedding // Jemma & Brenton’s Byron Bay Surf Club Wedding

Jemma & Brenton celebrated their wedding in the most idyllic beachside location, at the iconic Byron Bay Surf Club. With a clear vision of a relaxed party style wedding overlooking the ocean, Byron Bay Surf Club quickly ticked all of the boxes for this beautiful, fun-loving couple. In Jemma’s words, “we chose Byron Bay Surf Club for many reasons and it definitely didn’t disappoint!” Jemma & Brenton worked closely with Wilderness Flowers to fill the space with incredible statement floral arrangements, using a combination of dried palms and soft, neutral blooms. It was such a joy to watch their vision and love story come to life — read on to hear more!

Tell us about your story, how did you meet and where did the proposal happen?
Brenton and I met at a mutual friends house when we were 16! He is from a small country town 12 hours away from where I grew up and at the time we both didn’t expect anything to happen. From that night we didn’t stop talking and 12 years later we are (finally) married!

Brenton proposed in 2019 while we were on our 7 week Europe trip! We were getting ready to spend a day out exploring Amsterdam and before we left our beautiful hotel room I turned around to see Brenton on one knee!

What were the reasons for choosing Byron Bay Surf Club as the venue for your special day?
We chose Byron Bay Surf Club for many reasons and it definitely didn’t disappoint! Close to town and accommodation, waterfront views, ceremony and reception all in one place AND a later curfew! Many of our family and friends were shocked to hear that Brenton and I have never been to Byron Bay, including our venue! With planning a wedding in the middle of a global pandemic we had to expect border closures etc, which meant we saw our venue for the first time on our wedding day. Honestly, though, how could you go wrong with such a beautiful location and best in the business vendors!

What style were you striving for with your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?
We both always wanted a big party, which made it an easy decision to have a cocktail style reception; another reason for choosing Byron Bay Surf Club! For our florals, I knew I wanted nude/cream with some dried palms with no greenery or colours. Mikarla from Wilderness Flowers absolutely nailed our vision and we had so many guests compliment our flower arrangements. I highly recommend Mikarla, she is super talented!

Were there any wedding suppliers that you particularly loved working with and why?
Honestly, this is the toughest question! ALL of our wedding suppliers were absolutely amazing and made our day so special – which makes it hard to call out only a few.

Our celebrant, Annie Molenaar (Celebrant Lady Love) is next level! The ceremony was more than we could have ever imagined and had all our guests talking after she left. We will forever be grateful for our queen Annie!

Figtree Photography & GoldBear Wedding Films were also huge standouts! They made the whole process super fun and we had so many laughs along the way; evident by our photos and video!

What were your favourite parts of the wedding planning process with Byron Bay Weddings?
Since we were unable to make it to Byron Bay and our venue, Sihanie (Wedding Planner) from Byron Bay Weddings was our go-to girl! Sihanie made the whole planning process stress free and ensured every detail was captured! Kate (Manager) also went above and beyond for any last minutes amendments!

Tell us what were the most important aspects of your wedding day and which moments really stood out to you?
Again, this is hard to choose when the whole day is what you really look forward to! But if I’m to choose one, it would have to be our ceremony! Annie told our story perfectly, and after 12 years together we finally became husband and wife!

What would be your biggest advice to other couples currently planning their wedding?
Our advice would be to definitely enjoy the process and to do what you both love! This day is about you as a couple and something you will look back on forever!
