Real Wedding // Rebecca & Danny’s Earth House Wedding

Rebecca & Danny’s love story truly warms our hearts. Hailing from opposite sides of the world, this beautiful couple came together with their families and friends to tie the knot in style at the stunning Earth House. Set in the most picturesque hinterland location overlooking the incredible Nightcap Range, Rebecca & Danny’s relaxed approach to a classic yet modern theme shone throughout the day. We can’t get enough of their timeless neutral palette incorporating soft blush and oak from the ceremony to tables. Read on to hear how this romantic pair decided on forever.

Tell us your story, how did you both meet?
Danny was born and raised in Las Vegas, and in early 2011 he packed his bags and moved to the other side of the planet to embark on a new adventure. I’m a Sydney girl and at the time was working at the Beresford in the city. Danny and his friends decided to head into the Beresford one night, and in a cliche moment we started chatting and he slipped me his number.

Not wanting to date a ‘traveller’, I didn’t really pursue him and go on any dates, however, it seems the universe had a different plan for us. Over the next following months, Danny and I would bump into each other over and over. Whether it was at the grocery store or random bars across Sydney, we kept crossing paths so eventually he convinced me to meet up for ‘just coffee’. Well… the rest is history.

How did the proposal happen?
The proposal was something you only read about happening to someone else. It was a dream come true – I couldn’t believe Danny had gone to so much effort to create such a humbling proposal. Danny drove us west of Sydney for about 4 hours – I had no idea where we were going, except that we were going ‘camping’. The confusing part was I was told to dress up as if we were going out for dinner, which threw me off.

Once we arrived at Barren Grasslands in the middle of nowhere, there was a random chalkboard sitting in the grass which read “Beck, close your eyes”. Following the instructions, Danny blindfolded me and we continued driving for another few minutes. He then escorted me out the car and up a small flight of stairs. I had absolutely no idea what was going on and just did what I was told.

Facing away from him, he then took my blindfold off and I immediately realised he had taken me to a spot I had been suggesting we experience for some time – the epic glamping spot at Bubble Tent Australia near Capertee Valley. I stood there for a while taking in the breathtaking scenery, and then slowly turned around to Danny on one knee with the most beautiful ring in his hand, a photographer to the right and a drone flying overhead. I broke down in tears – it was absolutely surreal.

What style were you striving for in terms of your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?
Honestly, when we started planning, we didn’t really know what we wanted. We just started brainstorming ideas we liked from other weddings we had been to and putting together a Pinterest board. After a while, we discovered a relaxed and welcoming feel. We used neutral earthy colours that worked with the rural landscape to create a classic yet modern look. We really weren’t sure what the end result would look like (especially with the last-minute venue change), but all our vendors made it look seamless.

Were there any vendors that you particularly loved working with and why?
Definitely our photographer, Nina Claire who was absolutely incredible. We met her for the first time on our wedding day and we just gelled. She had such engaging energy and really worked her way throughout the crowd and the day to capture some incredible shots. At the end of the evening she let her hair down (literally) and joined in on the dance floor while continuing to take photos, it was fun just watching her join in like that.

Also, our celebrant Chiquita Mitchell was unbelievable. She was so warm and friendly and genuinely cared about making our day really special. We can’t thank her enough for the ceremony she created for us, it was beyond perfect. We had so many people come up to us afterwards and compliment on what a wonderful job she did.

Overall, what was your most favourite part of your wedding day and why?
After the ceremony, our photographer took us away with our bridal party to take some candid shots in the spectacular rural setting. Our Byron Bay Wedding Day Coordinators brought up a picnic basket with some champagne and beers to share in an intimate relaxed moment with our wedding crew. It was so nice to take a moment to stop, breathe and take in the moment. Everyone told us to stop and take it all in at one point during the day, and that’s exactly what happened!
