Kelly & Nick’s Fig Tree wedding was a celebration we just want to keep reliving again… and again. From a super cruisey and beautiful morning for the ladies, getting ready in Fig Tree’s Sunrise accommodation (with celebrant Michelle Shannon popping by for a quick hello!), to one knock-out ceremony and reception, privy to views across Byron Bay. Style-wise, we love the simplicity of adding blush pinks and navy upon neutrals of rattan and whites – a theme carried effortlessly throughout. Witness how Yellowbull Weddings captured this day perfectly!
Tell us your story, how did you both meet?
Nick and I met at a party through mutual friends. I was dead sober as was competing in a triathlon the next day, and Nick was having a big night with his friends! He was very sweet, we caught up the following week and just kept hanging out…
How did the proposal happen?
We had been together for 12 years, but it was still a surprise as it had never been a big talking point for either of us. Nick took me out for my birthday at Dinner by Heston, booked us into the penthouse at a nearby hotel for the evening and proposed in the room with lots of lovely things said. It was really sweet.
What were the reasons for choosing Fig Tree Restaurant as the venue for your special day?
We didn’t want a large wedding. Both of us being from Perth and living in Melbourne – we wanted to marry somewhere warm and loved the idea of people feeling like they were on holiday. So Byron was an obvious choice and we fell in love with Fig Tree because of the big fig tree itself, such a great place for our ceremony.
What style were you striving for with your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?
I am no stylist but I wanted a combination of: hamptons/traditional/romantic. Definitely nothing over the top but we wanted to bring in the gold, navy and blush pink from our wedding party outfits.
Were there any vendors that you particularly loved working with and why?
Honestly I could not fault any of our suppliers… The flowers were exceptional, The French Petal captures everything. Our cake was amazing too, by Byron Bake Cake Boutique.
What were your favourite parts of the planning process with Byron Bay Weddings?
Whilst it wasn’t all-inclusive in that we had to pick our own suppliers – there were a lot of great recommendations making the process very easy! For us we wanted very low stress and to be able to trust the suppliers given we were organising from afar.
Overall, what was your most favourite part of your wedding day and why?
Having our friends and family in a really great location, all here to have a lot of fun. It was faultless. We had a couple of hiccups with my dress and the dining being indoors only in the lead up, but on the day there just was nothing we would change!
