Should I book in to do a trial for my hair and makeup before the wedding day and when should I do this?

Ava Belle Hair & Makeup
Yes, it’s highly advisable to book a trial 4-8 weeks out –  this as an opportunity to create your perfect beauty look and decide on all the details. With a trial done you can enjoy the process of getting ready, confident that the result is exactly what you’ve envisioned. For those brides travelling interstate or internationally, Ava Belle Hair & Makeup still advise to book the trial during the week prior to the wedding.

Ava Belle Hair & Makeup

Marley Hammond Makeup & Hair
We always recommend having a trial if you have time, however a lot of our Byron brides don’t live close enough to do so. In this case we always recommend collecting inspiration pics or sharing your inspiration boards!

Marley Hammond Makeup & Hair

Anita Bauer Hair
On the wedding day, brides are more relaxed and confident knowing what they will look like, as well as having someone familiar doing her and her bridal parties hair. It’s like having one of your close girlfriends apart of your day!

Yes, I recommend a trial at any stage prior to the wedding. It’s great to meet and connect in person (it always feels exciting too!). We’ll discuss in detail your dream hair vision and determine the suitability for you, taking into account your dress and personal style. We have time to try two styles to perfect your look and ensure your 100% happy.

Alex Ouston Beauty
Yes definitely! A trial helps to work out the exact look you’re going for and gives you a great idea on how your skin and hair work with the look you’ve chosen.

Foxs Lane Styling
Yes, it’s a great way to get to know you, your hair and makeup style and to have a thorough consultation to perfect the look you desire on your special day. Trials can be booked with Foxs Lane Styling 3-4 months out or some brides who are travelling from afar will book the week of the wedding day.  It’s lovely to meet brides face to face before the day, however, trials are optional and no matter what, we will be able to achieve the look you desire.

A trial is always very helpful so that you can feel confident and relaxed on the day knowing you have already made the right decisions in respect to hair up or hair down and different shades of colour for your eyes and lips.

Makeup Maree
If you have the time and are in the area it’s a great idea to book in for a trial. This can be done at any time during the lead up to the day but generally 2-3 months before is a good time as this is when your skin texture and tone will be most similar to your wedding day.

Makeup Maree

Byron Bay Makeup Co
Byron Bay Makeup Co highly recommend trials so we can discuss all our options, you can try the products and most importantly feel completely comfortable and confident that you are in the best hands on your wedding day.

A trial is a great way for us to be on the same page come your special day! If a trial isn’t an option I’m always happy to do a quick phone chat or for you to share your inspiration pics and questions via email. If you are not local don’t worry we can discuss styling via phone and email and share photos and ideas.

Moksha Makeup
Yes, I recommend booking in a trial before your wedding. Sometimes you think you want a certain type of makeup and when you try it, it isn’t quite how you envisioned yourself. That’s what makeup trials are all about, playing with makeup and seeing how you feel. Come with plenty of vision pictures (ideally from my Instagram) and let’s have a play!

Moksha Makeup

Dani Cousens Makeup Artist
Dani Cousens say’s “a trial is an important part leading up to your wedding”. It gives us a chance to meet before the day, and determine the overall look you would like to achieve. It also makes the wedding day feel more relaxed, as you know what to expect, and if you want to make any changes on the day. I recommend booking this anywhere from 6 months out from your wedding.

Tiarna Robertson
A trial is always advisable if you have the opportunity. I love meeting with my brides before the wedding day so that we can get to know one another and design the perfect look together.

Trials not only help to gain confidence and trust in your artist, but they’re also useful at getting advice on things such as hair extensions or skin health suggestions.I ideally like to book trials in at least 2 months before the wedding date. Once you have a clear vision of your style, it’s time to book in a trial!

How much time should be allocated to each person getting their hair & makeup done?

Ava Belle Hair & Makeup
Bride hair OR makeup, 1 hour approx.
Bridal hair AND makeup, allow 2 hours approx.

For additional wedding party members:
Hair OR makeup 20-40 minutes
Hair AND makeup 40-75 minutes.

Please contact me for quote and timeline according to your specific requirements, these times are a loose guideline as every bridal party is unique.

Ava Belle Hair & Makeup

Marley Hammond Makeup & Hair
At Marley Hammond Makeup & Hair we like to allow 1 hour for hair and 1 hour for makeup. Depending on styles though, it’s usually only about 45mins each.

Anita Bauer Hair
The timing is mindfully allocated to ensure the day runs smoothly and to schedule. I allow 1 hour for the bride, 45 mins for bridesmaids and 30 mins for mums and the flower girls (with time for finishing touches at the end to ensure the bridal party is looking to perfection and ceremony ready).

Anita Bauer Hair | Fig Tree Pictures

Alex Ouston Beauty Co.
We work out our timeline well before your day and it all depends on which styles you’ve chosen. Please feel free to get in touch to discuss timing for your hair and makeup on your day.

Alex Ouston Beauty

Julie Corbet Hairdresser & Makeup Artist
At Julie Corbet Hairdresser & Makeup Artist I allocate 2 hours for the bride’s hair and makeup, and 90 minutes for bridesmaids and the mother of the bride.

Julie Corbet Hairdresser & Makeup Artist

Makeup Maree
As a general rule makeup takes 40 mins per person and 60 mins for the bride. This may change depending on the number of people requiring makeup.

Byron Bay Makeup Co
I like to allocate approx. 1hr per person and 1.5hrs for the Bride. I always allow some extra time so that you don’t feel rushed and still have time to enjoy getting dressed and relaxing.

Moksha Makeup
Ideally 45 minutes per person and one hour for the bride.

Moksha Makeup

Dani Cousens Makeup Artist
I allow 45 minutes per person and 1 hour for the bride, I also offer touch ups before we wrap up to ensure that everyone is happy with their makeup, and to freshen everyone’s lips and skin if needed 🙂

Tiarna Robertson
At Tiarna Robertson I like to allow 2 hours in total for hair and makeup, or one hour for makeup or hair
only. This allows time to create and perfect without rushing.

I also like to have a little extra time up my sleeve for touch ups at the end. I always aim to be finished when your photographer arrives. This means the space is clean and ready for your first look or getting ready photos.

What time should we expect to start hair & make-up? How long before the ceremony should I be ready?

Ava Belle Hair & Makeup
Expect an early start! I will work with your timetable to recommend a starting time. I always allow for unanticipated holdups. Time flies on the morning, with many special moments to enjoy with your party and the arrival of your photographer, flowers and family.

My goal is to create a stress-free environment with plenty of time to bring all the details together. Completion is recommended at least 1 hour before the ceremony.

Marley Hammond Makeup & Hair
We always recommend finishing hair and makeup 1.5 hours before your ceremony. You need time to chill, have a drink, eat, get dressed and take a few pics! Nobody likes to rush these final moments.

Marley Hammond Hair & Makeup

Anita Bauer Hair
Brides can relax in knowing the bridal party will be ready at least 1 to 1.5 hours prior to the ceremony. This is the perfect time for the photographer and allows a relaxed time to enjoy the “getting ready” photos.

I find the hour prior to the ceremony is special for a bride and her closest girls, sharing the final moments of excitement and anticipation before saying ‘”I do”. Start time varies depending on numbers in the bridal party. Prior to the day, I will have to send a clear time and run schedule.

Anita Bauer Hair | Milenko Weddings

Alex Ouston Beauty Co.
Timing is an essential part of keeping your morning calm and fun and we love to bring both of those aspects to your day. With this in mind we work in a team so we aren’t starting super early. Our hair and makeup start time will depend on your ceremony time so once that’s locked in we are able to give you a hair and makeup commencement time. We love to be done by 1-1.5 hours prior to the ceremony.

Julie Corbet Hairdresser & Makeup Artist
I like to have everyone ready 90 minutes before the ceremony. This leaves enough time to get dressed and have a few photos.

Julie Corbet Hairdresser & Makeup Artist

Makeup Maree
You should aim to have your hair and makeup finished 60 mins before your ceremony. However special consideration needs to be taken if you are having any pre-ceremony photos or if you are getting ready at a location that differs to your ceremony venue as travel time would need to be factored in.

You will be surprised how quickly the last moments of the morning fly so it’s important to have at least 60 mins built into your schedule for those special moments like getting into your dress and enjoying a relaxed celebratory champagne with your chosen bride tribe.

Makeup Maree

Byron Bay Makeup Co
I think its great to be ready at least an hour before its time to leave to give yourself time to relax and take it all in. The day flies by so fast so its so good to allow yourself time to breath and enjoy every moment.

Byron Bay Makeup Co

Moksha Makeup
Depending on how many are in the bridal party. This will all be calculated by 45 mins per person and an hour for the bride plus about 15 minutes at the end for touch-ups. I recommend being ready about 1.5 hours before so there is no rushing or stressing getting dressed.

Moksha Makeup

Dani Cousens Makeup Artist
It really depends on the size of your bridal party, and what time you need to be ready for photos. The bigger the bridal party and earlier the ceremony – the earlier we start.

I generally recommend being ready by the time the photographer arrives so that they can capture any last touch ups, and you can get straight into pre ceremony/getting ready photos without feeling rushed.  Generally this is around 1.5 – 2 hours prior to the ceremony.

Dani Cousens Makeup Artist

Tiarna Robertson
This depends on a few factors. What time your ceremony takes place, if you will be having a first look, what time your photographer arrives, if you’re travelling to your ceremony location, and how
many artists are booked. In the lead up to your wedding, I have unlimited and open communication.

Together with your event planner and other vendors, we can create a timeline that works seamlessly for a stress-free morning. I suggest printing your timeline and having it on hand for the day. This way everyone can access it, and it may eliminate questions for the bride while she’s relaxing in the makeup chair.

How much time should we ask our photographer to be onsite for to capture ‘getting ready’ photos?

Ave Belle Hair & Makeup
This will depend on factors including party size, preparation location, number of photographers and ceremony time.  I will create a running order with your photographer & planner. I will stay with you for final touches to ensure everyone is picture perfect during your preparation photos, until the final moments before stepping out to the ceremony. I also offer a stay on service for look changes and touch-ups at key points during your event.

Marley Hammond Makeup & Hair
I personally think you only need to capture the last moments of the bride getting her hair and makeup done – which can be done as a mock style pic when hair and makeup is actually finished!

Marley Hammond Makeup & Hair

Anita Bauer Hair
I love to have the bridal party feeling at ease and confident that they look their best and ready for their pre-wedding photos. I do recommend the photographer to come at least 1.5 hours prior to the ceremony. They can capture the candid moments of the finishing touches of hair and make up, before capturing the “getting ready” photos.

Alex Ouston Beauty Co.
An hour and a half is perfect.

Alex Ouston Beauty

Julie Corbet Hairdresser & Makeup Artist
It is good for the photographer to have an hour with the bride as she is getting ready.

Makeup Maree
A morning schedule will be provided which you are more than welcome to share with your photographer and other vendors. Usually, 90 mins before the ceremony will work well.

Makeup Maree

Byron Bay Makeup Co
Perhaps ask your photographer to come along for one hour before to capture some behind the scenes shots of you getting ready. Those can really be the magic photos that tell a story of your day from start to end.

Byron Bay Makeup Co

Moksha Makeup
Generally the photographer will guide you in what time they would like you to be ready for getting ready photo’s. I am happy to work with them with the timing they need.

Dani Cousens Makeup Artist
I normally work around their suggested ‘ ready’ time so we generally wrap up hair and makeup as they arrive to capture the start of the ‘getting ready’ photos – the final lipstick and powder touch up before you pop the champagne and get dressed!

Tiarna Robertson
On average most bridal parties spend about an hour with their photographer before
the ceremony. However, this is a personal preference and usually your photographer will guide you.

It might depend on your specifications such as capturing family photos pre-ceremony, first look, if there’s children present or even what season you’re in as lighting changes
