Our go-to lighting ideas to light up your night

Never underestimate the importance lighting holds to add that ‘wow factor’ to your special day. With so many different options to choose from, adding a little sparkle here and there will beautifully transform your space as the sun sets and bring your night time wonderland to life.

Here’s some ideas on how to best light up your night depending on your venue and structure.

Simple yet effective
The easiest way to add ambience to your wedding is with tealight or pillar candles. We recommend incorporating these as a staple for every reception and cocktail hour by simply scattering them around in an assortment of heights and slightly different shapes for a bespoke, effortless touch.

This simple warm lighting will instantly ignite that romantic mood whilst giving your guests a flattering complexion as they mingle. You can still get a little creative with tealight holders to reflect the styling of your wedding and complement the grander lighting features. The Wedding Shed have many candle vessel packages on offer; select from silver moroccan lanterns, white wash candelabras and simple skinny glass votives – plus more.

Lighting a marquee, tipi structure or indoor space
Lighting a marquee or tipi structure can seem a daunting task but without a doubt it will be one of the most mesmerising images to store in your mindbank for years to come. As night falls, your romantic fairytale will immediately illuminate around you, creating an impressive ambience and the ultimate backdrop for your photos. Edison bulbs, fairy lights and fairy light curtains will be your best go-to here.

Perhaps you have your heart set on a large-scale centerpiece for your reception but don’t want to go down the path of lots of florals? Opt for a dramatic light or floral/light installation for something truly unique. We love seeing our talented florists and light specialists collaborate to test their artistic flair, delivering our couples some of their best work. Think edison bulbs dropping at different heights, thick foliage and bright, seasonal blooms.

Adding ambience to a room or verandah setting
Carry the atmosphere to a room, verandah setting or an empty space with decorative pendant lighting. Whether you are going for an old-school romantic, contemporary or boho feel – The Wedding Shed has a wide selection of pendants and chandeliers to suit.

Transform a barn into a glamorous ballroom with light strands and vintage beaded chandeliers, appoint your pool lounge with a Mykonos pendant or simply hang a collection of edison bulbs off a verandahs beams.

Creating a wow factor with your outdoor space
This season our number one new lighting trend would have to be the fairy light tunnel. Imagine being part of such an ethereal affair where you are surrounded in all angles by draped fairy lights, emitting a magical warm glow as you dine under the stars with your most favourite people. Pretty extraordinary…

We also love creating your very own enchanted forest by seamlessly engaging with natural structures surrounding your venue. Work fairy lights up the trunk of a towering gum tree or wrap them around the sturdy branches off an impressive Moreton Bay Fig. This magical fairyland will also brighten an outdoor dance-floor and dining experience under the stars. You may also wish to construct a fairy light ceiling, a fairy light canopy or strings of outdoor festoon lights to add even more sparkle to the clear country sky of Byron’s hinterland. Go on and manifest an incredible cluster of stars for your special night!

Letter lights and signage
Consider large-scale illuminescent or neon letters and signage to convey a message, also becoming a main attraction at night. Select from The Wedding Shed’s choice of letter lights and signage; including giant wire letters spelling ‘LOVE’, a ‘BAR’ sign or a rustic ‘LOVE sign. If you are seeking customised signage, please get in contact with our friends at Event Letters.

We work with a very talented network of lighting specialists who know our venue like the back of their hand. This is incredibly important when it comes to understanding your locations power capabilities, whether it has sufficient built in lighting as well as what looks good and where.
