Real Wedding // Marion & Peter’s Victoria Estate Wedding

Marion & Peter celebrated their romantic wedding at Victoria’s Estate on a magical autumn day. Known as being an incredible private sanctuary surrounded by a majestic subtropical forest, Victoria’s Estate was the perfect venue choice for this gorgeous couple. With ‘garden party vibes’ at the core of their styling vision, Marion & Peter worked closely with The Wedding Shed and chose white, oak and neutral tones with subtle touches of blush to bring together their theme. For florals, greenery was a feature with soft hues of pink, blush and white, beautifully complimenting the natural elements and tones of the venue. Read on to hear more about Marion & Peter’s special day.

Tell us about your story, how did you meet and where did the proposal happen?

Peter and I met at uni whilst we were both at college. Pete was supposed to propose in Tasmania but got way too excited when he received the ring and ended up proposing in the garage.

What were the reasons for choosing Victoria Estate as the venue for your special day?

When we first started looking, Che told us to figure out what our top 3 “must haves” would be for the day. Those three things were; food and beverages. I work for a brewery and really wanted a venue with BYO so that I could have the beer there and we really wanted the food from Fig Tree Restaurant.

The second was music, when we started we didn’t realise how difficult this would make things. Peter is in a band and we were both adamant that we wanted a full band, with drums and everything, on the day. And the final thing we needed to work around was numbers. Pete’s from a big Philippino family and we were looking at having around 150 people minimum attending. At the end of the day, with those 3 things, it really narrowed down our options.

We originally picked Ewingsdale Hall but realised to have the music we would need to have a tent where everyone would be eating and the band would have to play in a separate building which would make the whole evening a little disjointed. So at the Byron Bay Wedding Fair, we were on a mission to see if there was another venue that would work and Victoria’s Estate was the winner! The fact that the venue was so picturesque was a bonus.

What style were you striving for with your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?

Styling was definitely not a strength of ours and we really leant on the team at The Wedding Shed to guide us. The only real thing we knew was the venue and my dress and we left it up to the Wedding Shed to create a mood board to tie everything together. We ended up calling it ‘Garden Party vibes’ and it even helped us when it came to telling our guests the dress code.

For tables, we thought it would be simpler with long tables – with 150 people it was hard enough to divide everyone on to tables of 50, I can’t imagine trying to break it down into tables of 10. We wanted everyone to feel relaxed and didn’t want anything to be too formal and at the end of the day, we felt that as long as we had good food, drinks and music then the rest would come together.

Were there any vendors that you particularly loved working with and why?

Keira from Byron Bay Weddings was a huge help! We also absolutely loved working with Shane Shepherd, our photographer, Mike, from Goldbear Videographers and Ben Carlyle, our celebrant. From the get-go, we knew we didn’t want anything overly lovey-dovey and wanted the whole day to feel like a big party and Shane, Mike and Ben made that possible. Shane and Mike made sure we didn’t have to do anything overly posed and kept photo time as short as we wanted it and Ben made sure the ceremony was full of banter. But at the end of the day, there wasn’t a single supplier that we didn’t enjoy working with.

What were your favourite parts of the wedding planning process with Byron Bay Weddings?

Obviously, the day itself and seeing everything come togetherBut I also really enjoyed meetings with Keira; they were probably the best part. Especially coming towards the end when I would start to feel a little anxious about some of the smaller details and she just made everything so much simpler and less stressful.

Tell us what were the most important aspects of your wedding day and which moments really stood out to you?

It was the top 3 things – food and beverages, music, and guests. Honestly, being able to have the band play and blast all of our favourite songs so that we could have the dance floor going made our night just the way we wanted.

What would be your biggest advice to other couples currently planning their wedding?

Every couple I talk to who are planning, I always tell them what Che told us, figure out what your top 3 are. You might not be able to find a venue that has absolutely everything on your dream list so pick your top 3 and let go of the rest. You’ll never remember the smaller things on the actual day.
