Emily & Cohen’s Earth House wedding in Byron’s peaceful hinterland was met with clear blue skies, effortless beauty and an intimate reception. The styling theme across the day saw a unique blend of bohemian furnishings, neutral hues and bright blooms in hot pink and pastel orange. Allow us to take you back to this special day with Figtree Pictures capturing their story ever so perfectly. Read their love story below.
Tell us your story, how did you both meet?
We met at a mutual friends party and got talking to each other. We then saw each other out at a night club a couple of weeks later and spent some time together, sharing a kiss. After this, we went on a few dates and just had amazing chemistry and a great connection. It wasn’t long until we began to see each other every single day! We then moved in together, travelled lots together and decided to get a dog…
How did the proposal happen?
We were in Byron Bay for a holiday when Cohen told me he was going to take us out for a special dinner at Rae’s. We had a lovely night but I remember Cohen acting a little bit strange and I was wondering what was going on. After dinner, Cohen asked me if I wanted to be with him forever. I said of course I did, and then he got down on one knee and revealed the most beautiful sapphire engagement ring. We were both crying and after we celebrated and finished our dessert we called our friends and family to let them know.
What were the reasons for choosing The Earth House as the venue for your special day?
We visited a few stunning venues in Byron Bay for our wedding day, but The Earth House felt the most magical and whimsical. We really loved the space as it was, without any decorations or anything set up so we knew it would be perfect for our special day! It felt like a little magical world, away from everything. We absolutely loved the spectacular views over the Hinterland, the big fig tree and felt it was such a peaceful place for us to say ‘I do’.
What style were you striving for with your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?
With our wedding venue being so spectacular, we tried really hard not to overdo our decorations and set up. We were going for a bohemian, tuscan understated vibe. This included lush florals with rich accents of blush pink and deep reds. We wanted to keep our wedding quite relaxed as it was a small gathering, so we chose simple furniture and styling items that we loved, including neutral wooden tables and chairs, leather Chesterfield couches and beautiful crystal glassware.
We also organised a vintage refurbished Kombi (with Forever Kombis) to drop Em and her bridesmaids off as well as take some pictures of the two of us at the macadamia orchards close to The Earth House.
Were there any vendors that you particularly loved working with and why?
Our wedding celebrant, Michelle Shannon was amazing to work with. She was such a warm and lovely person and made both of us feel completely relaxed and calm about the whole process. She is amazing at what she does! We also loved our musician, Tom Francis, who generously lent us his equipment and guitar so Em and her brother Toby could perform a song for our guests. Munro, our host (owner of Earth House) was also amazing, and really showed pride for his venue through tending to the garden and making a naturally beautiful environment look even more spectacular!
What were your favourite parts of the planning process with Byron Bay Weddings?
Organising our wedding with Byron Bay Weddings was really so easy. So many friends asked us if it was stressful planning a wedding interstate, but it couldn’t have been simpler! We loved how BBW were always free to answer any questions via call or email and offer suggestions for anything we weren’t sure about. We really enjoyed browsing through the BBW wedding directory to search for our wedding vendors. It was so simple to use and gave us so many amazing options for musicians, photographer etc. to have in our wedding.
Overall, what was your most favourite part of your wedding day and why?
Cohen – My favourite part was arriving with all our friends and family, standing under the amazing fig tree and watching Em walk towards me. I was overwhelmed with emotion, taking in all the wonderful scenery around us. The flowers, the weather, the setting – it was all perfect.
Emily – My favourite part was the moments straight after our wedding ceremony when it all became real! I just remember blinking with tears of happiness as we walked back down the aisle together and celebrated with our families and close friends.
