Real Wedding // Em & Lou’s Fig Tree Wedding

Em & Lou celebrated their magical day at Fig Tree and we couldn’t have been more in awe of this stunning day! The raw emotion was captured so beautifully by the talented Van Middleton. In Em’s words “seeing my wife for the first time and becoming Mrs & Mrs was my favourite part of the day”. Read their story below.

Tell us your story, how did you both meet?
Lou and I initially met online. After dating a couple of times in Sydney, we both moved on to different relationships. Lou had then moved to Hong Kong and I then went on a holiday there which then started us flying back and forth to see each other between Sydney and Hong Kong.

How did the proposal happen?
We were on holidays in Sydney with our family and Lou’s friends, Simone and Rachel, who helped Lou surprise me on Chinaman’s beach. I was in total disbelief when I found a pathway of lights down to the beach where Lou was standing ring in hand. Lou has always been romantic but this was the most beautiful gesture yet.

What were the reasons for choosing Fig Tree as the venue for your special day?
Fig Tree had an incredibly romantic atmosphere, with the poolside lights, 150 year old fig tree and the staff were warm and inviting, the food was delicious and the property had a beautiful history and family. Everything was perfect.

What style were you striving for with your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?
We wanted a bohemian romantic feel. Not over the top but certainly to capture the coastside that we both love.

Were there any vendors that you particularly loved working with and why?
All of them. Especially Van Middleton, Little Red Productions, Fig Tree, Byron Bay Weddings, Byron Bay Beauty Bar, Tina and Kristen’s Weddings, Wilderness Flowers, Millie’s of Newrybar, Delilah Fox (Em’s dress) and Anna Campbell (Lou’s dress), our celebrant Jackie – Champagne Celebrant and our unbelievable musician Sharon Muscat from Lady Like. They were all exceptionally professional and delivered above and beyond our expectations.

Overall, what was your favourite part of your wedding day and why?
Seeing my wife at the top of the alter then coming down the aisle as Mrs and Mrs. Having our family there enjoying the beautiful atmosphere with them, dancing, crying haha! The speeches were a big highlight, both Lou and I didn’t stop crying the whole way through!
