Real Wedding // Brittany & Scott’s Byron Bay Surf Club Wedding

Having met each other in Byron Bay over 10 years ago, Brittany & Scott returned to celebrate their special day. They both love spending time at the beach, so the Byron Bay Surf Club with stunning ocean views and the most magical sunsets, was the perfect wedding venue. They opting for a rustic and beachy vibe which incorporated a palette of whites, pinks and dark greenery. Read on to hear more about their incredible day.

Tell us about your story, how did you meet and where did the proposal happen?

Scott and I first met through mutual friends in Byron Bay. We were best friends for 10 years – studying architecture together and living together as flatmates. After a few years living in separate cities, we saw each other again in Sydney and wanted to be more than friends!
Scott proposed whilst we were on holiday in Bali. He organised a villa on the cliffs in Uluwatu and a private chef to a beach cabana at our favourite spot.

What were the reasons for choosing Byron Bay Surf Club as the wedding venue for your special day?

Scott and I both love being outdoors – spending lots of time at the beach and in Byron Bay.
The Byron Surf Club suited us perfectly – being able to have the ceremony, pre-reception drinks and sit down reception at the same location, overlooking the beach and watching the sunset. We also loved that the venue was in the centre of town as we wanted to make the day as seamless as possible for us and our guests with minimal travel to and from the venue.

What style were you striving for with your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?

We wanted the vibe to be rustic and beachy with all white furnishings, minimal table settings and pretty pink florals. We used greenery to brighten some of the darker spaces of the venue and also used a solid timber / white marquee on the deck to add to the rustic, beachy vibe.

Were there any wedding suppliers that you particularly loved working with and why?

We loved all of our wedding suppliers!

Katrina our celebrant was amazing – she created a beautiful ceremony for us that was relaxed with lots of laughs.

Shane Shepherd our photographer was full of personality and so much fun to work with on the day – we also love our photos.

Miss Renee Simone performed for us as part of a 3-part trio – she is incredibly talented, and our guests adored her.

One of my bridesmaid’s mothers – Jacqui Hoskins did the flowers. They were so beautiful, and she did an amazing job.

And the cake!! Best cake we have ever tasted and so pretty. Charlotte Wild from Let Them Eat Cake

What were your favourite parts of the wedding planning process with Byron Bay Weddings?

Byron Bay Weddings removed all of the stress and hassle for us during the planning process and also on the day. It was fun having a planner to make decisions with and rely on for advice. Having the entire planning process managed and guided made us reassured that everything had been thought about.

One of the best parts of working with Byron Bay Weddings was having a coordinator there on the wedding day to manage all of the vendors and running processes. Byron Bay Weddings ensured everything ran smoothly so we were able to have a good time!

Tell us what were the most important aspects of your wedding day and which moments really stood out to you?

We loved the entire day. The ceremony was very special – listening to Katrina’s ceremony and saying our vows in front of our family and friends.

Before the reception, we went to Wategos Beach with our photographer Shane Shepherd for some photos and champagne. This was one of my favourite parts of the day – spending some private time together and taking a breather before returning to the party.

What would be your biggest advice to other couples currently planning their wedding?

We loved our wedding day because the venue was true to us, and we removed a lot of the stress surrounding the day by remaining in the one location.

Family members and friends will all have advice on their preferences but stick with what feels right for you as a couple.
