Sarah and Barrie’s fate was destined over a game of golf, and let it be known… the whole thing really couldn’t have been ‘teed up’ more perfectly! We count ourselves very lucky to be part of their gorgeous Earth House wedding. Positioned deep in the Byron hinterland, privy to stretching views across rolling hills. The look and feel across the day had effortless beauty written all over it, adorned in crisp white blooms and green vinery by The French Petal. The impressive grandeur of the venue definitely took centre stage. Scroll down to read their love story and witness how Fig Tree Pictures captures their beautiful celebration…
Tell us your story, how did you both meet?
Barrie and I first met when I moved from Adelaide to the Gold Coast. Barrie is a keen golfer as is the majority of my family. My dad and brother met Barrie on the golf course and invited him over for dinner and the rest is history. We had a great friendship for a long time and realised after a while that there was something more there.
How did the proposal happen?
Sarah’s favourite time of the year is Christmas – always has been. After getting her family’s approval, I had to decide which day over the Christmas period I was going to propose. After much thought, I decided to surprise her after she got home from work on Christmas Eve. We are both home bodies and to do something this special in our home was just so fitting for us. After the proposal, both sides of our families came over to celebrate!
What were the reasons for choosing Earth House as the venue for your special day?
We have always loved the countryside and rolling hills. As soon as we entered the driveway we knew that this was it. We fell in love instantly! For us, Earth House had everything we wanted. A stunning ceremony area, beautiful understated gardens and that rustic reception barn. It was a blank canvas so we could choose what we wanted to use to create the look and feel we wanted. Earth House’s owner, Munro, is an incredible human who just made everything so easy and stress-free for us. He was always able to answer any questions we had and nothing was ever too much trouble for him.
What style were you striving for with your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?
We wanted to create a simple, minimalistic and timeless look. We didn’t want to choose or create anything that in our eyes was going to date. For our florals, we used Estelle from The French Petal and she was truly amazing. From the time we picked Earth House we knew that we wanted to create a feature from the venue’s individual beams. We decided to do four separate hanging installations down the middle of the room, consisting of mainly green vines and green flowers with a hint of white throughout. We decided that we would hang the installations quite low to really create a gorgeous effect. We kept it simple with our table florals as we wanted our main feature to be the installations. The tables were covered in different sized candles and vases to really create a gorgeous ambience.
Were there any vendors that you particularly loved working with and why?
We loved every single vendor we worked with throughout the planning stage and on the day. We loved working with Aoife from Byron Bay Weddings, the whole planning process was so easy! Estelle from The French Petal was incredible. Marina Machado made the best cake I have ever eaten in my life! Dan from the Dan Clark Band created the best entertainment. Alice from Fig Tree Pictures was great. Barrie and I aren’t naturals in front of a camera but she made it so easy and we got some great photos. We must say that our On The Day Coordinator, Niall, was truly amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and everything ran seamlessly. We can not thank him enough!
Overall, what was your most favourite part of your wedding day and why?
The whole day was just incredible. From the beginning of the day, to the end, I don’t think we can pick one particular part. It was all amazing! We just wanted to create something that all of our friends and family could enjoy. We wanted everyone to have fun, eat great food and have a full glass! So many of our guests said that it was the best food and the best wedding they have ever been too. What a compliment that is!
