Real Wedding // Rachel & Andrew’s Hinterland House Wedding

Andrew and Rachel celebrated their beautiful summer wedding at the majestic Hinterland House. Having a clear vision of creating a glamourous tropical escape they opted for a variety of white and subtle pink tropical flowers and dark greens which complemented the scenery of Hinterland House. They enjoyed having drinks with their guests on the lawn watching the sky turn pink and purple, after which they danced the night away under the fairy lights. Read on to relive their midsummer’s night dream wedding day…

Tell us about your story, how did you meet?

We met the old fashioned way… bumping into each other at a pub in Canberra where we were both living at the time.  Rach was actually at her own farewell night (which I crashed with a friend of his as we were the last two groups in the pub) — Rach had made the call to move back to Sydney to follow a great job and be closer to family.  We struck up a great chat over last drinks and Rach mentioned at some point that she would be stopping by her favourite café in the morning to get one last coffee there.  After kicking myself for not getting her number I went to the café the next morning waited for her. After I managed to get her details, we chatted and caught up a little when we both were in Sydney and then pretty quickly I moved up to the big smoke and we were on.

How did the proposal happen?

Rach loves Christmas so she was keen to have a live tree in our apartment when we first moved into our place. I suggested we should start a tradition of buying a surprise bauble for each other each Christmas to hang on her tree. We had to hang the bauble up and reveal it to each other; Rach went first and revealed our Christmas wombat bauble (a long time ago a friend and I were chased by a wombat on a long walk home after a party, so I think it was in reference to that) and mine said: “Will you marry me?”  Rach eventually said yes and we then had a great night of champagne with friends and family who were all waiting to jump in and give congrats.

What were the reasons for choosing Hinterland House as the venue for your special day?

We looked at a few venues on the same day and Hinterland felt perfect for us.  We wanted the venue to have a few different zones for the start, ceremony and reception as well as somewhere we could stay and play for a couple of days.  This ticked every box, the house is so versatile and the pool area was amazing for a wash up as well.  It also has such great views over the hinterland and we loved seeing our guests roaming the grounds with a cocktail in hand to find their perfect photo spots.

What style were you striving for with your table settings, florals and reception? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?

Our vibe was to try and deliver a tropical escape to guests with just a little bit of glamour.  Rach says it’s like Hawaii vibes x Sinatra style!

Were there any vendors that you particularly loved working with and why?

Massive thank you to BBW of course, the whole planning, set up, food/drinks (Sun Bistro) and support on the day was just so good.  Totally stress-free on the day and it came together perfectly. We still smile whenever we think about it.

Obviously, the Cloud Catcher team totally captured the vibe of the day perfectly.  They were so much fun and kept us together especially when the cocktails started to be a distraction – which was definitely not easy as we’re not naturally photo people…

Bower Botanicals were amazing delivering on Rach’s floral brief and Chiquita was all fun and great class in running the ceremony.

Gling and Dan from White Tree were awesome as well, and the Wheel and Spoon team were a huge hit — I think my dad had about 5 gelatos himself!

Tell us what were the most important aspects of your wedding day and which moments really stood out to you?

For Rach it was the mental snapshot she took right in the middle of the vows, she says she will never forget that moment and how she felt hearing those words.  For me, it was seeing Rach for the first time in her dress, I went straight to water and couldn’t stop laugh-crying for a bit – probably the first truly breathtaking moment I have had in my life.
