About myself…
I’m a hair stylist, makeup artist and ocean lover… living and working in my newfound paradise…Byron Bay. My career began in Melbourne 15 years ago and relocated to Byron Bay about 3 years ago. I originally moved to Byron with the idea of putting hair and makeup on the back burner and becoming a full time ocean lover instead… but h&m work just kept coming my way, little did I know that Byron Bay was the most popular town in Australia to get married, so I jumped into it! My passion lies equally with both weddings & fashion based photo shoots.

Favourite part of my job…
Favourite part of my job is being able to work in so many different amazing locations and with so many talented awesome people! …Doing h&m at weddings in particular …I get to work in some of the most STUNNING wedding venues, surrounded by flowers, champagne and beautiful dresses! I feel so blessed to be able to call this work. Just seeing all the beauty around me, looking out onto the ocean from a beach house while curling hair, or looking out onto the Byron hinterlands… it just makes my job so enjoyable. And Byron seems to attract such relaxed bridal parties, everyone is always so lovely and chilled, it’s a joy to be around. Favourite part of the wedding day is seeing the bridal party in their dresses, full hair and makeup complete… it truly makes my heart melt seeing them all looking so beautiful; all the hard work pays off!

Biggest challenge of my career…
Biggest challenge? Probably getting started… studying full-time for nearly 3 years and doing lots of unpaid work to gain experience, designing my own website, keeping up to date with hair and makeup trends – it eats away at the bank balance trying to keep your kit filled with the most up to date & hottest makeup! Also, back in the Melbourne days, film and TV was extremely exhausting, long days, early starts. But it was so rewarding and I fine-tuned all my hair and makeup skills, which I still use today.

And my biggest challenge in Byron Bay is the weather… We have a love hate relationship… dealing with the wind, rain and heat can be hard for all involved… as most of the weddings and photo shoots I work on are outdoor based.

What I love about living and working in Byron Bay…
I love the lifestyle; it’s why I moved up here. I live a balanced life of hard work and pleasure (coffee dates, café’s, good food, morning lighthouse runs, morning ocean dips, afternoon ocean dips, regular Thai back massages) It’s so important to me – lifestyle. I love that I can work a long stressful wedding or photo shoot, but then jump into the ocean and do yoga stretches on the sand in the sunshine afterwards.

Top bridal H&M looks…
…Braids, boho-beachy textured waves & fresh dewy skin! It’s all about the dewy radiant skin (think illuminizer powders on the cheekbones and gold smokey eyes). I often get shown pictures of Blake Lively for inspiration from Brides. She’s a style icon for a natural glowing hair and makeup look. Hair flowers are always very popular …be it a full flower crown or a few flowers randomly clipped into the hair. You can’t go wrong with flowers, they will ALWAYS look beautiful! My fav looks are a soft beachy up-do (low messy bun, with volume and texture) with natural glowing skin (a flush of a pinky peachy colour on the cheeks is always nice).

Must have’s for a wedding day touch up kit…
Byron Bay can get pretty hot… A shiny t-zone is a common problem, so a powder and powder puff is essential, easily purchased at MAC Cosmetics (I recommend MAC pressed powder, medium/dark) and of course your favourite lipstick (lipstick preferred over a GLOSS for the wedding day, NARS and MAC have a great selection of lippys!). And a cream concealer for under the eyes and any trouble spots for the face. (Bobby Brown make some good little concealer kits!)

Expert H&M advice for brides to be…
Pinterest as many images as you can for hair and makeup ideas to show the h&m artist on the day, or at the trial. I’d recommend having an up-do in general, over hair out, as the weather elements can possibly cause some problems to your hairstyle. But even with a hair down look, once the hair becomes more relaxed throughout the wedding day, it can look quite nice – a beachy tousled effect comes up good in photos! Drink lots of water prior to the wedding, hydration on the inside means fresh hydrated skin on the wedding day.
