Tell me about Figtree Pictures

Hello, I am Kristy, the founder of Figtree, and totally in love with love and beautiful weddings. While researching photographers for my own wedding in 2008 I made a decision right there and then that I wanted to be a wedding photographer!

What followed was years of planning, dreaming, taking photos and looking out the car window for that ‘perfect spot’! In 2011 Figtree Pictures was finally launched, and it has been all hands on deck ever since. I am humbled to have already worked with many of the best wedding photographers and suppliers in the industry.

How would you describe your style?

Our style is relaxed, simple and a little rustic.

Your company specializes in wedding photography. What is it like to capture such special moments for others?

Being part of a couple’s special day is the best thing about being a wedding photographer. We can’t help but be swept up in the emotion, love and fun of the day and night.

Why choose to specialize in wedding photography?

We LOVE weddings, and it seemed only natural.

Do you have an assistant/2nd shooter that accompanies you on wedding assignments?

Absolutely! We recommend another shooter as a must for larger weddings, to ensure every moment and detail is documented. We call them ‘co-shooters’, as they are professional wedding photographers too who understand the wedding day flow.

Can you describe how and when you use flash, video light, reflectors and natural light during a wedding?

Natural light is our preferred way to shoot, but if flash is needed we will certainly use it. We will do what is required to get the best shots whatever the conditions may be.

Where would be your dream destination wedding?

Apart from Byron, I would have to say Santorini in the Greek Islands. My sister in law was married there a few years ago, and the back drop is to die for.

Tell me about a unique, funny, or interesting experience you have had while photographing a wedding.

I will never forget the first wedding I shot. It was an incredibly hot 42 degrees, in a park with no cloud or tree cover in the middle of the day. By the end of it I was completely exhausted, covered in dust, and severely sunburnt. It was such a fun day… but I make sure I take a big tube of sunscreen to every wedding now!

Describe your typical day at work. 

If it isn’t in front of a computer editing, it is out on location at a wedding or photo shoot, catching up with gorgeous couples for coffee, or networking with fabulous suppliers in our local community.

What do you love most about your job? 

Meeting and making friends with all of our gorgeous couples, and creating a beautiful keepsake for them to look back on in the years to come.
