Interview with The Arched Window
Tell me about The Arched Window Photography
The Arched Window Photography is Matt and Jade, we met studying a Bachelor of photography at university over 6 years ago and vowed never to become wedding photographers...
We fell into the industry quite a few years ago and have met some amazing people who have really helped us along the way. We now specialise in weddings and weddings alone with the occasional personal projects when we have time.
How would you describe your style?
Our style is quite relaxed but contemporary and tend to let the day flow and take control when needed. We love to capture the colour and scenery that couples experience on their day, after all, the wedding location is one of the most important and generally sentimental decisions made.
Our final images are never too heavy on effects and post processing despite having one of the best digital re-touchers in the industry.
How many weddings do you average per year?
We currently cover around 20-30 weddings; which is always rising since we are a relatively new business.
Your company specializes in wedding photography. What is it like to capture such special moments for others?
It is a great feeling, not much beats being able to present your clients with their images only to see them appear on Facebook moments later. We're honestly not happy unless they are.
Why choose to specialize in wedding photography?
The above reason alone makes you want to get up and do it over and over. Each wedding is unique so shooting never gets repetitive; it feels like you have a new job each time.
Do you have an assistant/2nd shooter that accompanies you on wedding assignments?
Both of us are at each wedding so our couples receive two professional photographers (both with photography degrees) to cover each wedding. We work as a team allowing us to cover more angles
Can you describe how and when you use flash, video light, reflectors and natural light during a wedding?
We may use one or all of the above during a wedding day, each type of light creates its own style and mood so it really is dependent on what the day throws at us or what type of image we are creating.
Where would be your dream destination wedding?
Well I will have to be biased here and say Byron. We chose to have our wedding here and it's still one of our favourite places to shoot.
O
bviously somewhere like Thailand would be amazing too or anywhere which has a beautiful backdrop and lighting.
Tell me about a unique, funny, or interesting experience you have had while photographing a wedding.
All we can say is girls, please.... please take a dress fitting prior to the day! It takes roughly an hour to an hour and a half to be stitched up in your dress once the zipper and fabric breaks..
Describe your typical day at work.
Generally we will meet the groom in the morning for some portraits with the boys before we catch up with the bride afterwards. We spend around an hour and a half with the bride capturing some candid shots, details of the accessories and of course portraits of the bride and the girls. The ceremony is next which is pretty self-explanatory, and family/group photos after. We then go to a few select locations before heading to the reception for a few photos of details, entrance etc before heading off, unless the couple request we stay for the entire evening.
